This is beautiful about your granddaughter and joyful disciples. I love that. I'm also finding it very difficult to hold that along with what I've learned of what it's like for detainees in the US detention camps and the families they've been separated from - I've learned a lot from the continuing saga of a New Zealander who's being held in that dreadful system for 6 weeks now. Are Christians pre-occupied with positivity when there's terrible things that need to be faced head-on? It's the "joyful disciples" bit I'm discussing - not the lovely event of your granddaughters Confirmation.

I hear you. The way I use it and heard it, joy is an act of resistance. I hope that makes sense?

Thanks Rose, yes joy as an act of resistance does make sense. If you don't mind me asking, I don't know where you are.. are you in an area where immigration detention facilities are present?

I’m in the Seattle area

Yes, our congregation does a lot of work there

Ah, I've found Northwest Detention Centre near Seattle. I'm guessing such work is not very public for good reason (but) I'm wondering if you're aware of anything online about church or inter-faith efforts working with detainees in your area? If there happens to be anything, it'd be great to have a link!

You can look online, search active interfaith efforts supporting Northwest ICE Processing Center in Tacoma. Several come up. Thank you for engaging this.
